Shine like gold

Certainly, like many of us, you have an idol, whether it's a musician, athlete, philosopher, or someone who exudes optimism and success. That person you admire, who seems to have everything, from a large social media following to incredible talents, can sometimes make you wish you were more like them.

The expression "born with a star" probably rings a bell. While you might not have been born with a star, what you may not know is that each person's body contains 0.2 milligrams of gold. Every single individual in the world is, in part, made up of gold. This isn't a metaphor or saying; it's a physiological fact. Incredible, isn't it? Each one of us carries a small portion of the precious metal within us. So, in a sense, we were all born with a star inside us, but not everyone realizes it.

Now, you might wonder why your idol's "gold" seems to shine brightly while yours doesn't. What does it take to be successful, to uncover those 0.2 milligrams of gold that we all carry and make the most of them? Success is about more than just dreaming; it's about taking action, and taking action requires skills.

People often associate their basic skills with the ones they use in their profession or the skills they had in previous jobs. Many talented individuals have to navigate career changes and try to apply skills from one field to another. In today's highly competitive work environment, continuous learning is a must; we can't afford to stop developing new skills. Most people worry that the skills they have will become obsolete, their knowledge won't stand the test of time, or they might even lose their job. What can we do to shine? It's easier than you think.

  • Be curious. Curiosity is the necessary foundation to succeed in a changing world. Companies need people who explore new ideas and solutions and who are willing to grow.
  • Communicate clearly. Communicating is like breathing, it occurs all the time, bodily, in writing, verbally, we communicate even involuntarily, barely realizing it. But at work, the structure and clarity of communication in any format or medium, including digital, are of great value.
  • Think creatively. At any level of an organization, the ability to find solutions and create new things is vital for our team to be competitive.
  • Self-management. If success depends on effective action, effective action depends on the ability to focus our attention where  and when we need it most . It takes strong organizational skills, effective productivity habits, and a strong sense of discipline to stay on track.
  • Build networks. Networking, networking and more networking. Networking isn't just for finding jobs or clients. In an economy dominated by ideas and innovation, social networks are the channel through which ideas flow and new ideas are created. Having gold is nice, but sharing it and having others share theirs with you is even better.

We all have something special; we just need to explore it within ourselves. Seek feedback from others to help uncover your strengths, approach your self-improvement with the enthusiasm of your first day on the job. Embrace reinvention, and take time to identify the skills essential for excelling in your current field. Leverage your existing skills, make room for new ones, and you'll likely embark on a brilliant career path that leads to your own version of success!"
