Love at first sight: what your boss is looking for in you

We all remember that one job interview where we effectively conveyed our immense potential, listing a multitude of virtues that made us seem like the perfect fit for the position. In our hearts, we aspired to be the standout candidate. But what happens once we've navigated the selection interviews and secured our place on the team? What should we do, and what skills are truly important in the workplace?

At HRider, we've embarked on an exploration of the ideal employee, and the following is what we've envisioned:
  • Passionate and positive
Have a can-do attitude and don't lose patience to understand and solve problems. Do not get carried away by pessimism, take the initiative, give suggestions and contribute positively to the organization. Happy and optimistic employees create a special work environment, generating new ideas and infecting others with their joy.
In whatever you do, try to be the best, without comparisons, the best of your versions. If you like your job you will always give the best of yourself.
  • Autonomous and goal-oriented
Be your own manager, be that person to whom tasks can be delegated to without concern. Take care to know well what your role is and what responsibilities you have. Manage your tasks and prioritize your work well, knowing at all times what things you have to do and when you have to do them.
Don't lose sight of the future, always keep your goals and those of your team in mind. Don't just do enough to justify your position, maintain high performance by striving to achieve goals that help give your organization a competitive leap.
  • Social and communicative
Something as simple as saying good morning with a smile will foster a positive attitude and greater interest in work on your part and that of your colleagues. The way you treat your colleagues can totally change the work environment. Try to relate to all departments and help where you can, you will also get cooperation.
The ideal employees communicate honestly -and tactfully- with others. But communication does not only imply speaking, it also implies knowing how to listen. Any feedback you receive should be valued positively and applied as much as possible. An employee can have all the talent in the world, but if he doesn't know how to listen, he won't achieve anything.
  • Work as a team
As a result of what we have been talking about, teams need people who speak and express their thoughts and ideas clearly, directly, and with respect for the work of others. That is, communicate constructively.
The best team players are always willing to share knowledge and experience. Teaching is how we learn best.
Cooperation is the best way to work and act together to get to work, beyond the different perspectives we may have with other team members.
  • Know your context
To handle our job well, we must have a deep understanding of the industry in which we are working, being aware of upcoming trends.
This will allow us to be more open to change, a trait that any recruiter and supervisor needs and looks for. The way the economy works today, it is vital that we know how to cope with changing conditions and adapt to constantly changing situations. Always considering different points of view, different ways of doing our work without remaining immobile in the same perspective.
  • Learn to unlearn (but not stop being committed to your company)
Although we are talking about an ideal employee, do not forget that falling into perfectionism usually does nothing more than delay us in our work. Obviously, there is nothing wrong with striving to be better, but when perfection is our ultimate goal, we are likely to get lost along the way and fall into procrastination. Always remember that neither you nor your colleagues nor your bosses are perfect and, best of all, we don't have to be perfect. Mistakes are made by your best teachers, an impetus to move forward and improve. And don't be afraid to do things differently!

There are traits that we may already have as standard and others that we have no idea where in our minds they may be. Don't worry, everything can be slowly absorbed with practice, experience and Feedback from our Ideal boss.
