Skill Taxonomy
A Skills Taxonomy is a structured classification system that organizes and defines skills and competencies within an organization or professional environment, creating a common language that facilitates their management and analysis.
It is typically structured into different levels ranging from the most general to the most specific. It includes main categories such as cognitive skills, management, technology, or attitudes, which are further divided into subcategories and specific skills, such as Python programming, negotiation, or data analysis. In addition, each skill can be associated with a proficiency level that reflects the degree of expertise, from basic to expert.
This system makes it possible to distinguish between soft skills, linked to interpersonal and behavioural competencies such as communication or leadership, and hard skills, related to technical and measurable knowledge.
Having a well-defined Skills Taxonomy supports better decision-making in recruitment, training, development, and internal mobility, aligning talent capabilities more precisely with business needs.
