Psychological Safety
Psychological safety is the shared perception that an individual can express their opinions, raise questions, propose ideas, or admit mistakes without fear of being punished, rejected, or humiliated within their work environment.
This concept has become a fundamental element for understanding the workplace climate and the functioning of high-performance teams. When psychological safety exists, people feel comfortable participating actively, sharing knowledge, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the organization.
In Human Resources, psychological safety is closely related to aspects such as leadership, trust, internal communication, engagement, and organizational culture.
An environment with high levels of Psychological Safety fosters:
- Participation and the exchange of ideas.
- Innovation and continuous learning.
- Early detection of mistakes and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaboration between teams.
- The well-being and commitment of people.
Conversely, when individuals perceive that expressing an opinion may have negative consequences, they are more likely to hide problems, avoid taking risks, or limit their participation, impacting both performance and the workplace climate.
