Full Time Equivalent (FTE)

Full Time Equivalent, abbreviated FTE, is a measure used in Human Resources to express an employee's total workload in terms of standard work hours per week. It is used to convert different workloads, such as full-time, part-time, or contract employees, into a standard measure of total work performed.
The basic formula for calculating FTE is:
FTE = hours worked per week / standard hours per week.
For example, if an employee works 30 hours per week in a part-time job and the standard workweek in the organization is 40 hours, the FTE calculation would be:
FTE = 30 hours per week / 40 standard hours per week = 0.75 FTE.
In this case, the employee would equal 0.75 FTE, indicating that he/she works three-quarters of full time.
